My name is Ryan Kaplan and I am conducting a research project with Dr Max Jory in the School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine at Monash University, towards a BSc (Honours) degree at Monash University. This means that I will be writing a thesis which is the equivalent of a short book. We have funding from Monash University for the purpose of this research.
The purpose of the research is to investigate decision-making in relation to various health-related activities. This will help develop the understanding of why people do or don't engage in such behaviours.
For the study, we require 200 participants between the ages of 18 and 65 (inclusive) who are residents of Australia and who smoke.
The study involves participants completing a short online questionnaire which includes reading some information relating to health behaviours. The questionnaire will take approximately 10 – 15 minutes to complete and can be completed in your own time, at your convenience, via any computer with Internet access.
The questionnaire is anonymous and the information that you provide will not be identifiable as belonging to you. Participation should not cause any discomfort.
In appreciation of your time, at the completion of the online questionnaire, you may choose to enter a draw to win a $60 shopping voucher. Contact details provided for draw entry will not be associated with your questionnaire responses and will not be able to be matched to those responses.
Participation in this study is voluntary and you are under no obligation to consent to participation. However, if you do consent to participate, you may only withdraw prior to the questionnaire being submitted.
Storage of the data collected will adhere to the University regulations and kept on University premises in a locked cupboard/filing cabinet for 5 years. A report of the study may be submitted for publication, but individual participants will not be identifiable in such a report.
The anonymous data which you provide may be used for other purposes, however because it is anonymous, nobody will be named and you will not be identified in any way.
